/film - Noview Movie Review: Hollywoodland
Hollywoodland arrives in theaters with the extra benefit of being on the heels of Superman Returns. After that reminder of the enduring screen presence of the Man of Steel, this film about what's behind the fantasy is timely.

The true story is that George Reeves, the star of the television series Superman from 1951-1957, died at age forty-two when he proved that he was not bulletproof. It was called a suicide, and the fact that Reeves' career was on the skids added validity to the conclusion.
Still others thought that he was offed. Some friends and colleagues pointed to his longtime affair with the wife of MGM executive E.J. Mannix as a motive for foul play.
Hollywoodland is that mystery viewed from two completely separate and parallel perspectives, that of Reeves' (Ben Afleck) and that of Louis Simo (Adrien Brody) a private detective hired by Reeves' mother to investigate the death....
...Brody is an actor gifted with the ability to convey an excess of emotion right below the surface. His Simo carries a weight, but we have a hard time understanding why his character is so driven by this investigation. Still, Simo is real enough that we're willing to believe that there is something there worth figuring out.
Director Allen Coulter (The Sopranos, Six Feet Under) has created an assured film of craft and character, and Brody could be up for another Best Actor Oscar. Even Afleck holds up his end. Hollywoodland stands a good chance of making all the year-end top-10 lists. And it beats the crap out of Superman Returns. Read the full story here.

TMZ.com - Matthew McConaughey -- Shirtless Again
Sucks to be the other shirtless celebrity on the beach when Matthew McConaughey is around, a lesson Adrien Brody learned the hard way today.
Both Hollywood hotties were sunning themselves in Miami Beach today and while Brody may not be the least fit guy on the block, he paled in comparison to super-sculpted McConaughey.
TMZ, never missing a chance to show Matthew without a shirt on, has compiled a group of photos from the day and we want to know who you think has the better beach bod. Read the full story here. View the photos here.

United Press International - Ben Affleck to star as original Superman
Actor Ben Affleck is playing original TV Superman George Reeves in the upcoming film, "Hollywoodland," hitting theaters Sept. 8.
"The story's about the toll it took on him (Reeves), the price of ambition," said Affleck. "You talk about typecasting and that kind of frustration -- he was one of the first guys to experience that."
In the film Affleck plays Reeves, a man who is worried he will always be known as the man from Krypton. After his untimely death, which was labeled a suicide, a gumshoe detective played by Adrien Brody investigates the case on a hunch, thinking Reeve's death was no suicide, Entertainment Tonight reported Monday.
"We recreated '50s Hollywood, a time in history that's really fascinating and glamorous," said Brody, "(and) there were all these darker undercurrents that allowed that to exist.... Read the full story here.

United Press International - 'Manolete' maps detail Spanish city sites
The Spanish city of Andalusia, the setting for the bullfighting film "Manolete" is capitalizing on the project with maps detailing the film's hot spots.
The maps will be linked to the upcoming film, which stars actors Adrien Brody and Penélope Cruz as passionate lovers. The maps will allow tourists to visit their favorite scenes in Andalusia and other neighboring cities, Hellomagazine.com reported.
Users of the maps will be able to revisit diverse locations such as the Mezquite -- a famed area mosque which contains its own cathedral built inside it -- as well as to the beaches of the town of Sanlucar de Barrameda to witness its annual horse race.
Also included on the "Manolete" visitor route will be the bullfighter's hometown of Cordoba, and locations to witness the extravagant El Rocio pilgrimage that occurs each year in nearby Spanish towns, the Web site said. Read the full story here.

Three Monkeys Online - Eugene O'Neill, the Monkey, and Adrien Brody
Adrien Brody is looking the worse for wear. The Oscar winning star is normally and rightly regarded as one of Hollywood's most elegant leading men. He’s so smart and chic in fact that Esquire Magazine named him America's best dressed man and he's often seen modelling top of the range designer gear.
Today however 31 year-old Brody is dishevelled and dirty; his clothes might best be described a woebegone because they look as though the man wearing them has been dragged through a hedge backwards.
Which is just as it should be since he has been thrust into the sweltering primeval jungle of Skull Island where he's going to be fighting for survival against the elements and the world’s most famous giant gorilla.... Read the full story here.

TrustedReviews - That's One Angry Monkey
How do you follow up, arguably, the biggest and most critically acclaimed movie series of all time? Well, if you are Peter Jackson (the squat, Kiwi, Hobbitish, genius director) you take on the biggest monster movie of all time – and you develop the game simultaneously.
A co-project between Jackson, his Weta visual effects studio and Ubisoft’s Montpellier team (headed up by acclaimed game guru Michel Ancel) are currently coding their way through King Kong and the results so far look pretty stunning.
The game is set on the legendary Skull Island where Kong was found and you take control of Jack Driscoll (this time played on screen by Adrien Brody). The first person adventure sees you running up against the Isle’s massive breasts and witnessing the staggering power of Kong as he goes up against these adversaries.... Read the full story here.

FilmForce - Four More for Justice
Truth, Justice and the American Way, Focus Features' long-planned drama about the life and mysterious death of Superman star George Reeves, is finally filming in Toronto under the direction of Allen Coulter.
Ben Affleck stars as Reeves with Adrien Brody co-starring as the private eye hired by Reeves' mother (Lois Smith) to investigate his death. Diane Lane portrays Reeves' longtime lover Toni, the wife of shady studio boss Eddie Mannix (Bob Hoskins).
Now The Hollywood Reporter's production chart tells us that four more thesps have been added to the indie's cast. Robin Tunney (End of Days), Kathleen Robertson (Beverly Hills 90210), Dash Mihok (The Day After Tomorrow), and Brad William Henke (The Assassination of Richard Nixon) have all been cast in supporting roles.
According to the IMDb, Robertson will play Carol Van Ronkel, Henke has been cast as a character called Russell, and Mihok's role is unspecified.
Tunney is playing Leonore Lemmon, whose relationship with Reeves incurs the wrath of Toni Mannix. Read the full story here.

icSurreyOnline - Brody racing to top of the bunch
Just a few years ago, Adrien Brody was a moderately successful actor with supporting roles in a handful of films. One Oscar win changed all that. In 2003, at just 29, Adrien became the youngest Best Actor winner for his portrayal of Polish musician Wladyslaw Szpilman in Roman Polanski's The Pianist.
Now, the New York-born star is one of the most sought-after actors in Hollywood and also one of the most acclaimed.
But though he relishes every moment of Oscar glory, it has taken its toll on his spare time.
"I'm not complaining, because it's what I've worked towards," he says, "and there are moments when we are all going to be overwhelmed by things when we have a lot to accomplish.... Read the full story here.
